The General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has confirmed that he intends to seek re-election when nominations open.
The internal elections are due to take place in 2022.
Mr Boadu spoke to Evans Mensah on Joy FM's Top Story on Monday, in reaction to the growing number of persons publicly declaring their interest to contest the NPP’s Flagbearership in breach of the party’s code of conduct.
He minced no words in confirming his interest.
Mr Boadu, who turns 52 this month, has served in many capacities in the NPP, including National Finance Officer, National Youth Treasurer, National Youth Organizer, National Communications Director (Deputy), National Organizer, and now General Secretary.
He was appointed Acting General Secretary in the lead up to the 2016 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections, which the party eventually won.
Then Chairman, Paul Afoko, 2nd Vice Chairman, Sammy Crabbe and General Secretary, Kwabena Agyapong, were suspended for allegedly working against the party's interest in the lead up to the 2016 polls.
Former MP for Suhum, Fred Opare Ansah and John Boadu’s current deputy, Nana Obiri Boahen, are but a few who’ve signalled intentions to challenge Mr Boadu for the position when the party votes next year.
