Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Ernest Yaw Kumi.
In a Facebook post on Monday, July 7, the former President stated that he was “devastated” by the news, describing the late lawmaker as a beloved and admired figure within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and among his constituents.
“The legislator was adored and loved by party faithful and cherished by all who knew or shared acquaintances with him,” Akufo-Addo wrote.
He extended his condolences to the bereaved family, Parliament, and the people of Akwatia, urging strength in what he called “this unimaginably difficult time.”
“May he find peaceful rest in the Bosom of the Almighty, until the Last Day of the Resurrection, when we shall all meet again,” the former President added.
The cause of Mr. Kumi’s death has not been officially disclosed. His passing comes as a shock to many, especially within the NPP, where he was seen as a rising figure.
Tributes continue to pour in from across the political spectrum as colleagues and constituents remember a man many describe as humble, hardworking, and committed to public service.
