The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Tano South in the Ahafo Region has urged the Ahafo Regional Education Directorate to increase its efforts to combat examination malpractice.
Collins Offinam Takyi, said this when the Ahafo Regional Education Office held its Nine Lessons and Carols ceremony at Bechem.
In an interview with Adom News, the MCE further explained the need for the Ahafo Regional Education Office to take concrete steps to address the issue of examination malpractice.
He noted that the increasing number of students in the country who are involved in cheating in examinations is a cause for concern, and it is important to put measures in place to prevent this from happening in the Ahafo Region.
According to him, the Ahafo Region has a reputation for academic integrity, and that, the Regional Education Directorate must work hard to maintain this positive image.
“About 140,000 candidates' scripts have either been cancelled or withheld. We have not received news that the students of Tano are included but even if we are not part, we are all Ghanaians. If we are not included, whatever the authorities did to prevent exam malpractice here, they should do it well. And if any of our students are included, there must be increased efforts to stop exam malpractice.”
The Ahafo Regional Education Director, Lucy Ama Ankrah, urged teachers and other Ghana Education Service (GES) staff to redouble their efforts in 2024 to help improve the education standard in the region.
She stated that the Ghana Education Service staff must not repeat the things they did in 2023 which did not improve education.
“Anything that did not go well in the previous year should be corrected. Cause in life we move forward and not backwards. So I wish them all a merry Christmas. Also, I advise them not to repeat previous mistakes so that we protect the integrity of the students in the Ahafo Region.”
