The Interior Ministry has announced that Friday, August 4, 2023, will be observed as a Statutory Public Holiday throughout the country.
August 4 marks Founders' Day which is observed to commemorate the contributions of all the people, notably the "Big Six" who fought for the country's independence.
Originally, Founders Day was celebrated on September 21 to mark the birth anniversary of Ghana’s first prime minister and president Dr Kwame Nkrumah before it was moved to August 4 in 2018 by President Akufo-Addo who proposed an amendment to the Public Holiday Act.
In a press statement issued and signed on Wednesday, July 26, the Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery said, "The general public is hereby informed that Friday, 4th August 2023 which marks Founders’ Day, is a Statutory Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country.
