Grumah Naomi Manshinna, popularly known as Shinna, is steadily carving a place for herself as one of the most exciting emerging voices in Ghana’s contemporary music scene.
Her rise reflects discipline, raw talent and the quiet resilience often associated with creatives from Northern Ghana who journey from modest beginnings to national recognition.
Born in Nalerigu in the East Mamprusi Municipality, Shinna remains deeply connected to her roots, with her stage name drawn from her local identity and symbolising her calm nature and belief that she is destined to shine.
Her educational journey began at Happy Child Basic School before continuing at Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School, where her passion for music began to take clearer shape.
Although she had been singing from an early age as a chorister in her local church, senior high school provided a more structured platform to develop her vocal ability.
Participation in the school’s music club allowed her to refine her skills and build confidence, laying a solid foundation for her artistic ambitions.
Shinna’s musical influences reflect a rich blend of local and international inspiration. She credits Nigerian singer Simi as one of the first artists who awakened her deep love for music, while global star Shenseea further influenced her artistic outlook.
On the home front, she draws inspiration from Black Sherif and Fancy Gadam, artists whose authenticity and storytelling have demonstrated the power of staying true to one’s roots while achieving mainstream success.
Her entry into professional music was both organic and unexpected. After posting a freestyle on Facebook, a friend who owned a recording studio reached out, impressed by her natural ability.
That connection led to her first studio sessions and the release of her debut song, an important milestone that validated her talent and marked the beginning of her professional journey.
A defining feature of Shinna’s artistry is her songwriting. She writes her own music, drawing from personal experiences, cultural identity and the aspirations of a young woman determined to grow creatively.
Although she is yet to release a full album, she is currently working on her first major project, which is expected to showcase a more refined sound and introduce her to a wider audience.
Beyond music, Shinna has built a strong professional path as a trained nurse, having earned her certificate from the Nalerigu Nurses Training College.
Balancing a career in healthcare with her musical pursuits reflects her discipline, sense of purpose and commitment to personal growth.
Looking ahead, Shinna envisions the next five years as a period of artistic discovery and expansion. Her ambition is to contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s cultural exports and carry her sound to global audiences.
With authenticity at the heart of her music and a growing body of work on the horizon, Shinna is positioning herself as one of Ghana’s most promising new female artists to watch.
