The chief financial officer of Lumiere G. International Limited, a finance and investment group, has appeared before an Accra Circuit Court over a GH¢300,000 dishonoured cheque.
Dr Charles Douglas Fordjour, charged with issuing a false cheque, pleaded not guilty.
The court, presided over by Basilia Adjei-Tawiah, granted him bail in the sum of GHC200,000 with two sureties, each to be justified with movable or immovable property.
The court also ordered the accused to deposit his passport at the court registry and seek permission before travelling outside the country.
The case has been adjourned to April 20, 2026.
Prosecution, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Emmanuel Haligah, said the complainant, Mr Ernest Pels, was the Managing Director of Timewise Expo Travel and Tour Limited and a resident of East Legon.
The accused is the chief financial officer of Lumiere G. International Limited, a trading, finance and investment company.
According to the prosecution, in May 2025, the complainant’s company was approached by Lumiere G. International Limited, owned by the accused and his wife, to issue airline tickets on their behalf.
A memorandum of understanding was signed for the company to make payments at the end of each month for tickets issued.
The court heard that between June and October 2025, Timewise Expo Travel and Tour Limited issued airline tickets worth GHC736,702 to various destinations upon request.
In September 2025, after making some payments, the accused issued a cheque for GHC300,000, dated September 8, 2025, drawn on the United Bank for Africa, Ring Road Branch, to the complainant.
However, when the cheque was presented on September 10, 2025, it was dishonoured.
The matter was reported to the Police, leading to the accused's arrest.
In his caution statement, the accused admitted issuing the cheque on behalf of his company.
Prosecution said investigations revealed that the company later paid GHC150,000 after the cheque bounced, leaving an outstanding balance of GHC586,702 owed to Timewise Expo Travel and Tour Limited.
