The Minister of Transport, Mrs Dzifa Attivor, has called on investors who wish to invest in the country to consider the aviation industry as one of their options.

“The aviation industry in Ghana has seen a boost since 2011 and this can be attributed to our liberalised aviation policies, the stable political climate and the conducive business environment,” she said. 

 Mrs Attivor made the call during the inauguration of the local organising committee (LOC) for the first-ever African Expo in Accra.

The committee will help create awareness within Africa and the global aviation industry that investment in Ghana in whatever form will be of mutual benefit to both Ghana and the investors. 

LOC members

A 23-member LOC Board was inaugurated to put in place preparatory measures for the first African Air Expo in Ghana this year.

The LOC members are Mr Ashong Lartey, Mr Kwame Ansong, Mr Yaw Owusu-Achiaw, Mrs Sena Siaw-Boateng, Mr Divine Owusu Ansah, Dr Joel Sonne, Mr Asante Duodu and Mr C. Hansen-Adu.

Others are Mrs Catherine Hoffman, Ms Adwoa Sono, Mr J. Okwesie-Arthur, Mr Osei Bonsu, Mr E. O. Mensah, Mr Adu Asare and DSP Samuel Sasu-Mensah.

The rest are Mr Edward Agbodjan, Mr Bruce Nyarko, Mr T.A. Selby, Mr Kwesi Taylor, Mr Ben Akumba, Mr Enimil Ashong, Mr Teete Owusu-Nortey and Mr Ellis Hugh-Tamakloe.

LOCs mandate

Mrs Attivor charged members of the board to put in place measures to ensure that the programme became a success, adding, “The members of the LOC have been identified as important leaders with the requisite experience and resources to help organise the air show.”

She further implored the newly constituted board to come up with pragmatic and innovative ideas to ensure that the event was not only successful but also worth remembering. 

Activities for the expo

In an interview with the Daily Graphic, the Chief Executive Officer of Yetron Services (the events organising company for the African Air Expo) Mr Teete Owusu-Nortey, said the event would commence from October 9 to 11, 2014.

He indicated that two days would be dedicated to trade business and conference, while the last day would be opened to the public for viewing.

He explained that the show would be opened to exhibitors who would want to trade in aviation accessories.

Mr Owusu-Nortey, who is also a member of the LOC, added that there would be a pilot training and  financing programme, among other programmes, and assured exhibitors and participants that the three-day show would be one to remember.
