The Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Environment is to involve community and opinion leaders in the signing of contract documents to enable the local people to monitor contractors.Stephen Asamoah-Boateng, the sector minister, said this when he addressed the first ordinary meeting of the fifth session of the Nkoranza District Assembly.
He was at Nkoranza as part of a visit to some districts in the Brong-Ahafo Region.
He said the involvement of community leaders in the execution of contracts would enable the people to participate in and lend their support to the completion of such projects.
Mr. Asamoah-Boateng expressed concern about how some contractors sidelined community members in their areas of operation and called for cordial relationship between contractors and the communities.
He urged assembly members to encourage and support revenue collectors to enable district assemblies to receive greater support from the government in development.
Mr. Asamoah-Boateng said the ministry was studying proposals from the district assembly and the traditional council for the creation of a new district within the district.
Mr. Asamoah-Boateng later commissioned some staff bungalows and schools blocks constructed by the district assembly at Nkoranza and Donkro-Nkwanta.Source: GNA
