Institute of Public Relations (IPR) Ghana President and CEO of Stratcomm Africa, Esther A.N. Cobbah, led an IPR delegation on July 29, 2024, to pay a courtesy call on Rev. Dr. Ernest Adu-Gyamfi, Board Chairman of the National Peace Council.

This visit was part of the activities marking the 50th Anniversary celebration of the Institute, themed "Public Relations for Value Creation," with a focus on ethical communication for peacebuilding in an election year.

Ms. Cobbah briefed the Peace Council Chairman on the anniversary theme and outlined various activities planned, including a recent event at UniMacIJ in Accra where IPR Student Chapters developed and pitched strategies for promoting ethical communication in political discourse.

She also discussed the Institute's plans to train communicators from the NPP and NDC across the Northern, Middle, and Southern regions of the country.

Rev. Dr. Adu-Gyamfi praised the IPR's 50th-anniversary theme, acknowledging the challenges of misinformation and disinformation in Ghana, particularly during political activities.

He stated the need for continuous support from IPR and other institutions to promote peace during the 2024 elections.

He welcomed the IPR's interest in collaborating with the Peace Council and expressed his appreciation for the involvement of IPR Student Chapters in promoting ethical communication.

Rev. Dr. Adu-Gyamfi accepted a proposal from Ms. Cobbah to include an IPR representative on the National Election Response platform to support the Council's communication efforts.

He highlighted the critical importance of ethical communication in political activities, expressing his delight at the IPR's focus on this issue during their anniversary celebration.

"The value of communication is appreciated when it helps to meet societal needs. This year, as IPR celebrates our 50th anniversary, there is an opportunity to contribute to the realisation of national peace and harmony as we go into national elections.

Support to the work of the National Peace Council is a modest contribution from IPR, and we are delighted to have been given an audience by the Chair of the Council," said Ms Cobbah.

The visit underscores IPR Ghana's commitment to fostering a culture of ethical and effective communication across all levels of Ghanaian society, especially during the upcoming elections.
