A Kumasi Circuit Court has remanded Appiah Dankwa, a student into police custody for allegedly stealing a computer valued at 5.5 million cedis.
Dankwa, who claims to be a student of the Institute of Professional Studies (IPS) in Accra, pleaded not guilty to the charge and will re-appear on February 14.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Appiah Kubi told the court presided over by Ernest Yao Obimpeh that the accused offered to sell the computer for the complainant with the promise of bringing the money as soon as he sells the equipment.
However, Dankwa decided to keep the money although he sold the computer and kept giving the complainant excuses for more than two years.
Prosecution said complainant then reported the case to the police and when a bench warrant was issued on March 26, 2006 for his arrest, the accused went into hiding till the police succeeded in arresting him on January 30, this year.Source: GNA
