Some angry youths of the National Democratic Congress in the Wa municipality of the Upper West region have defaced posters of President Mahama and minister of state Rashid Pelpuo.
According to them, the latest reshuffle which replaced Upper West regional minister, Bede Ziedeng with Roads and Highways minister, Alhaji Amin Amidu Suleiman is sign of disrespect for the region.
Correspondent Rafiq Salaam reported that the rampaging youth started the action around 4am at the regional office of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) located at the Gongomuni T-junction.
The 20-man group went there with several buckets of red paint; eleven used car tyres and a gallon of petrol.
They first defaced the posters of president Mahama and posters of the party and followed it up with inscriptions, "No Bede No JM, why JM, why Amidu and Amidu again?"
They then tried to torch the rented one story where the NDC secretariat is housed by pouring petrol on the used tyres.
But the timely arrival of the police saved the situation as they took to their heels. The angry supporters resurfaced at the Wa Central constituency office of the party. They continued the defacing of the posters of the president, the Member of Parliament for Wa Central Rashid Pelpuo with red paint.
One of them who spoke on condition of anonymity said the reshuffle showed the amount of disrespect the president has for the region.
He noted that under the late President Mills, the region alone had four sector ministers but for now they can hardly point to one especially when of their own is the President.
However, the Regional Organizer of the party is completely shocked about the behaviour of the irate youth.
Meanwhile, the Wa municipal police commander, DSP Stephen Anane Boye Tetteh says his outfit is yet to be informed officially about the incident.
However, he said they are monitoring the situation to prevent the irate youth from going further with their plans.
