Mr. Anyidoho was an integral part of the late President Fifii Atta Mills’ administration and he was in charge of communication at the presidency where he was described by both within the government at that time and some outsiders as a “De Facto” prime minister. In fact, it was alleged that he stepped on many toes including the president who was then the vice-president during his hey days in Mills’ reign.
Everybody thought that such a powerful figure in the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) party, his appointment into Mahama’s administration after the demise of President Mills wouldn't have been something for public discourse. However, the expectation of many people including my good self was dashed out when after one year of Mahama’s administration the late of Mr. Anyidaho hanged in the balance.
It was even rumoured that he was left at the Castle, former seat of government, when the whole government machinery led by President Mahama moved to the Flagstaff House early 2013. Then it became obvious that President Mahama was being vindictive and wanted Mr. Anyidoho to know that his political “romance” with the NDC came to an end the very day his boss [President Mills] died.
What might have broken the camel’s back for the president to eat his humble pie by appointing Mr. Koku Anyidoho as a Presidential Aide still remains a mystery to me. But wait, did I hear some of the NDC communicators say after the announcement of Koku’s appointment as not true?
It has been alleged that when the announcement came up, former deputy Minister for Ministries of Information and Media Relations and Tourism, Agyenim Boateng, was said to have cautioned panellists on a flagship programme of Peace FM, “Kokroko” where he was also a panellist not to give credence to the appointment of Mr. Anyidoho because according to him it has not been “officially” announced.
The question I am asking is: Was his appointment therefore a hoax? It is incumbent on President Mahama to let Ghanaians know the truth about his appointment, his office location and job descriptions. The reason is that he will eventually be paid with the poor tax payer’s money.
Initially, I doubted the allegation by Mr. Agyenim Boateng though he is part of the government, but upon second thought; I started believing it, judging from how the announcement of his [Koku Anyidoho] appointment came about. Unlike Malor’s appointment which was officially signed by Mahama Ayariga, Minister of Information and Media Relations, on behalf of the president, only God knows where Koku’s own came from.
This style of governance by Mahama is not new where he is fond of appointing people for no work assigned to them. Ghanaians will recall that somewhere late last year, he [president] made some ambassadorial appointments and the prominent among them was Dr. Tony Aidoo but as we speak now, they [yet to be posted ambassadors] don't know their designations let alone when they arc leaving the shores of this country for their places of work.
Has Koku started working because I’m reliably informed that Mr. Malor, the newly appointed head of communication, started working few days after his appointment? Politically, governance should not be shrouded in secrecy as Mahama is introducing into Ghanaian politics.
I ’m of the firm belief that if things are done right in the best interest of the whole nation, some of these suspicions and speculations can be avoided. Let’s build a nation with trust and faith that is the strong foundation any country can have.
America is where it is now because of the solid foundation based on trust the founding fathers of that country [America] built on.
