Authorities at the Ashanti Regional Islamic Education Unit are happy at enrollment in basic and senior high schools in Muslim-dominated communities.
Regional Manager, Alhaji Ibrahim Amankwah revealed many Muslim parents continue to show interest in secular education of their wards; a development he described as positive.
Though enrollment figures are not readily available, officials say there is a shift from old practice where only few Muslim children were enrolled in secular schools.
Alhaji Amankwah told a commissioning ceremony in Ejura he is happy at the gains made so far from public education campaigns. Only few Muslim parents are said to have shown interest in their children education in the past.
“We have conscientious Muslim the need to have secular education and now, all Muslims are in school”. He said.
While appealing for more public support, Alhaji Amankwah called on Muslim in the region to be proud of the current development and also dismissed claims that Muslims are lagging behind in secular education.
There is also improvement in the provision of education infrastructure with over 350 Islamic schools currently sited in the Ashanti region alone.
Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Ejura Sekyedumasi, Mohammed Salisu Bamba, has commended foreign humanitarian organization for funding the project.
He also called on school authorities to take good care of the facility.
