Dancehall artiste Stonebwoy, has revealed that since he began his music career in Ghana, the amount he has received as royalties from the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO), is GH¢2,000.
According to him, Ghanaian artistes rarely benefit from their creative intellectual property as they should.
Speaking to Ghana’s High Commissioner to the UK, Papa Owusu-Ankomah, Stonebwoy said that musicians are forced to find other sources of income with their crafts.
In a video Myjoyonline.com sighted on twitter, he said, “the amount I have ever gotten from making music as royalties from Ghana is GH¢2,000. For instance, it is not by force to go on road tour and perform, those are subsidiary income but for the creative intellectual property zero,” he stated.

The 'Nominate' hitmaker said that he has reached out to the leadership of GHAMRO, sometimes with his lawyers, to resolve the issue surrounding royalties, however, his efforts seem futile.
He added that payment of royalties is a big issue in the country, affecting many musicians and needs to be addressed.
Papa Owusu-Ankomah who was visibly surprised by the revelation asked, "ah, but what about your songs that they are being played every minute?"
