A final year Junior High Student of ASWAJ Islamic Academy in the  Techiman Municipality of the  Bono East  Region, on Sunday beat 40 other contestants to win the 2019 edition of Twellium National Quran Recitation Completion.

The contest was held on the campus of the University of Professional Studies in Accra.

Master Luqman Swallah received an all-expenses-paid trip to Mecca in Saudi Arabia, to be part of the Hajj pilgrimage to the Holy city this year.

In addition,  Luqman Swallah received a whooping  GH¢ 20,000 and a Nasco tablet to enable him further his Quran memorisation.   

Again, he had products from Twellium industry Ghana Limited.

The event was attended by Deputy Imam of Ahlusuna Wal Jama’a Sheikh Muhammed Kamil Muhammed, Dr Muhammed Bashir Adam, a lecturer at the Arabic department, University of Ghana, Legon and Sheikh Muhammed Bashir Suleman Addo, lecturer Institute of Islamic studies Nima.

Participants were drawn from the 16 regions of the country, after going through screening, the prospective winners were then selected to be part of the final competition.

The 17-year-old physically challenged defied his disability and battled the 40 able-bodied contestants in eight categories to win the Ultimate prize.

Master Luqman Swallah’s impressive performance won admiration from the judges, leading to the chairman, Dawud Mohammed Tindawu to prophesy over his future.

“ It is not everybody who can recite it how it was revealed,” said Dawud Mohammed Tindawu.

He noted that the boy’s ability to answer all the 10 questions indicates, he has future and will become an Imam to lead his people.

Dawud Mohammed Tindawu, who is Director-General at the Administration of Quranic Affairs in Ghana, disclosed that his organisation will reach out to their partners to secure a scholarship for him to continue his education.

On his part Master Luqman Swallah expressed his appreciation to the management of the Twellium Foundation for the opportunity which has made him the first from his family to perform a Hajj.

A visibly elated Luqman said he was from a poor family, none of his family members has gone to perform the Haj before. He had never thought he will one day get the opportunity to go to Mecca to perform the Hajj.

Some of the participants received cash reward while others went home with attractive consolation prizes.
