A 17-year-old final year junior high school pupil identified as Kwaku Asare, aka Agyaaku, has committed suicide at Kyeamekrom, near Sreso Timpon.
Asare’s body was found hanging on a tree in the bush at Kyeamekrom in the Atwima Mponua District in the Ashanti Region, on Friday, February 1, after he had gone missing for about a week.
No suicide note was left behind, and family members were at a loss as to what could have compelled the teenager to hang himself.
A resident of the community, however, said the boy had impregnated a 15-year-old girl, but it is not known whether the suicide was related to the pregnancy.
According to the source, when the boy went missing, the family made fruitless attempts to find him until last Friday, when an offensive odour from the nearby bush filled the air in the area.
A search party traced the source of the odour and found the remains of the deceased hanging from a tree by a rope.
The source said the police were accordingly informed and the body, which was in the early stages of decomposition, was conveyed to the morgue at the Nkawie Hospital.
When contacted, a source at the Atwima Mponua District Police Station confirmed the story and said the police are conducting investigations into the case.
