Kofi Adams, aide to President John Rawlings is alleging that cadres of the ruling party are being organized to “misbehave” at the Coconut Groove Hotel, venue for the Freedom Power Lectures.
The ex-president is set to speak on corruption, later Wednesday night, a move Adams believes is getting some supporters of the ruling party “jittery.”
The theme for the lecture: "Corruption; a threat to democracy and national development."
Speaking to Joy FM’s Super Morning Show host Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah, the suspended Deputy General Secretary of the ruling party said some members of the party are behaving as though “our party has committed any crime,” and “if the word [corruption] is mentioned they start shivering.”
He said President John Rawlings will depoliticize the issue of corruption which has eaten deep into the moral fabric of the society.
He said political parties and religious groups “continue to play games” with the issue of corruption by shielding members or pastors involved in acts of corruption.
He noted “many people will be disappointed” after Wednesday’s lectures by the ex-president.
Kofi Adams moved to debunk assertion that the platform on which the ex-president is going to speak is politically tainted.
Whilst acknowledging that the Freedom Power Lectures platform is led by Andrew Awuni of the opposition New Patriotic Party, he was quick to remind critics that President John Mahama was the first to give an inaugural lecture on the issue of footsoldiers in the country.
He said the ex-president will diagnose the issue of corruption and proffer non-partisan solutions.
The lectures will be live on Joy FM, Wednesday.
