The NDC flagbearer, John Mahama, has pledged to revitalize sports infrastructure across the country if elected to power.
The country has endured a long-standing struggle with inadequate sports infrastructure, and most of the existing facilities have deteriorated.
Speaking during a conversation with the media in Accra on Sunday, the former President emphasized his dedication to improving the situation when he assumes power.
“I will not stand here and promise that we will build a new stadium, but I have said that under the Big Push, we intend to spend a certain amount of money over five years on providing good infrastructure including roads, bridges, agro-industrial parks, and so on and so forth, that could include sports facilities,” he said.
“As part of the 24-hour economy, sports can play a very good part, and we will invest in sports facilities and help the private sector engage in sports facilities to provide service at night so our people can enjoy that service.”
The Borteyman and Legon Sports Complex, built for the 2023 African Games, are the only two facilities in good readiness to host major multi-sports competitions.
