Ghana international Tariq Lamptey has revealed his decision to sign for Brighton and Hove Albion after leaving Chelsea was not a risk.
The youngster joined the Seagulls during the January 2020 transfer window after a brief stint with Chelsea's first team despite playing for the club's junior teams almost all of his life.
Tariq made his first appearance for the Chelsea senior team during a 2019/20 Premier League game against Arsenal at the Emirates, coming on for Fikayo Tomori in the 2-1 win under Frank Lampard.
However, continues lack of minutes in the team meant Tariq considered the offers he received during the winter transfer window with the player being convinced by Brighton's project.
Quizzed on whether it was a risky decision to join the club, who were only in the English top flight for the third season, the Black Stars defender said there is nothing as 'risk' for him.
"I think when you back yourself and you have the foundations that are behind me, they always believe in me and I trust God. With that, I don't think I really think of anything as risk," he told Joy Sports.
"It is something that you worked hard for and you believe in yourself and you are ready to take the next step. I was playing week in and week out in senior football. With anything that you do, you have to have trust and belief."
Tariq has been with the club for the last three-and-half years and played 20 games in the just-ended 2022/23 as the club secured European qualification for the first time in their history.
