Ghana defender Jonathan Mensah has returned to action after recovering from injury, handing the Black Stars a massive boost ahead of this month’s World Cup playoff against Egypt.
The 23-year-old was in action for his French club Evian on Saturday night as they defeated Toulouse 2-1, marking his first game since suffering a thigh injury five weeks ago.
Mensah, who is a central defender, was used as a right-back in the game and was substituted in the 66th minute as they came away with the much needed victory.
His return to action for his French club Evian in their league match on Saturday means he will be fit enough to face Egypt on 19 November if he is selected by coach Kwesi Appiah.
The 23-year-old missed the first leg clash after suffering an injury on the weekend to the lead up to the game in Kumasi while playing for the French club Evian.
The central defender was expected to be out for six weeks with a thigh problem but he has made a quicker-than-expected return from injury.
This has increased hopes of Mensah’s return for the second-leg of the World Cup playoffs next month in Cairo.
The Black Stars are taking a commanding 6-1 lead into the second leg match after making mincemeat of the Pharaohs last month.
His return will be a major boost to the Ghana defence which currently stands depleted over injuries to key players.
