Joy FM is once again supporting efforts to stock the blood bank at the Korle Bu Teaching hospital.The blood bank at the nation’s premier hospital requires about 200 units of blood daily to enable the center save lives, but officials say they get less than half of what is required.The Head of the Blood Donor Recruitment Unit at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Samuel Nunoo said any healthy individual between the ages of 17 and 60 and of sound mind can donate blood to the hospital.He said donors are tested to find out if they have Hepatitis B or Hepatitis C because they are not qualified to donate.Joy FM is out with a campaign to elicit the involvement of the general public for a special blood donation exercise at the Swanzy Shopping Arcade on Thursday aimed at stocking the Korle-Bu blood bank.Meanwhile, the Director General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Elias Sory has lauded the improvisation of staff of the Swedru Municpal Hospital who have been working for the past six years with a domestic refrigerator at their blood bank.He said efforts were being made to procure the necessary refrigeration system for the hospital.Source: Joy News/Ghana
