The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has become the third political party after the Convention People’s Party (CPP) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to receive a fully installed Multi TV digibox from Multi TV’s Joy News Television.
The donation is to foster deeper co-operation between the party and the Multimedia Group, operators of the Joy News Television channel on Multi TV.
A Sub Editor at the News Channel, Emily Nyarko who made the presentation at a brief ceremony at the NDC headquarters in Accra said the facility is to give the party an opportunity to view the station’s programmes.
Three high-profiled political and current affairs programs pm: EXPRESS, Caucus and Newsfile are currently running on the channel. Top officials of the NDC and the other minority parties are usually part of the programs aired on the channel.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the party, a leading member of the NDC and Chairman of the party’s Finance Committee, retired Naval Capt. K. A Buta said he was hopeful the donation will deepen relations between the two organisations.
He commended Multimedia for its invaluable contribution to democracy and press freedom in the country.
He recounted recent misunderstandings between the party and the Multimedia Group and said the presentation was a clear indication of a renewed commitment to friendship and common good.
The ceremony was witnessed by a team of party officials including the National Organiser of the party, Yaw Boateng Gyan, a Deputy Youth Organiser, Kofi Fono, National Director in charge of Administration, Akuamoah Ofosu Boateng and Communications Director, James Asante.
A similar presentation is expected to be made to remaining political parties.
