The Director-General of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), Brigadier General Maxwell Obuba Mantey, has praised JoyNews for its hotline documentary, Deadly Doses – Unmasking Ghana’s Drug Epidemic, describing it as a powerful tool that reinforces the Commission’s work in tackling drug abuse in the country.
Speaking after receiving a copy of the documentary, the NACOC boss commended JoyNews for amplifying what he called a “deep societal decay” that demands urgent national attention.
According to him, Deadly Doses does more than just expose the harsh realities of drug addiction but strengthens the Commission’s ongoing operations by shedding light on the lived experiences of addicts, the devastating effects on families, and the growing networks fuelling substance abuse.

The investigative documentary, produced by JoyNews’ Nana Boakye Yiadom, takes the audience inside notorious drug hubs such as Thinker Island and Columbia in Kumasi.
It captures the struggles of addicts, many of whom are trapped in cycles of dependency, while exposing the wider social and health implications for Ghana.

Brigadier General Maxwell Obuba Mantey stressed that the Commission will continue to collaborate with the media and civil society to address Ghana’s drug menace, adding that Deadly Doses is an invaluable resource that will shape public discourse and policy direction.
