Togbe Adesi II, the Ho-based spiritualist who allegedly knocked down four girls with his Land Rover vehicle with registration number GT 5193-10 last Tuesday at Ho, has been arrested by the police in Ho.
The incident also led to the death of one of the girls.
The deceased, Enyonam Murray, 15, was killed instantly.
The girls, who were returning from the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP)’s dress-making apprenticeship, were knocked down by the vehicle belonging to the popular spiritualist.
The rest of the girls, Micaul Agbalekpor, Mawunyo Bosu and Mary Anagbo, who got injured, are in critical condition at the Volta Regional Hospital.
The popular juju man, according to police sources, escaped from the scene as soon as the incident occurred.
A live royal African Python known in Ewe as Togbi Dabi was however found inside the spare tyre compartment of the vehicle with an egg lying by it.
It was however not immediately known what the snake was concealed there for and whether the egg was laid by the python or it was meant to be used to feed it. The snake was still in the vehicle which was parked at the Volta Regional Police Headquarters as at Wednesday afternoon.
Our reporters gathered that the spiritualist ‘stormed’ the Volta Regional Police Headquarters with two lawyers on Wednesday night but he was grabbed immediately the police saw him. He was alleged to have told the police that it was out of fear that he ran from the scene of the accident.
Police sources have it that he would be charged for negligently causing harm, and may also be possibly charged for driving without licence since he could not produce his driver's licence at the time of his arrest.
He could also not be tested for alcoholic intake since the police did not have the instrument to check it. He was still in police custody as at the time of going to press.
