The Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) has extended warm congratulations to the Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie on his appointment as the 16th Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana.
President John Mahama swore in Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie as Ghana’s new Chief Justice on Monday, November 17, days after Parliament overwhelmingly approved his nomination.
In a statement dated November 18 and signed by its National President, Samuel Afotey Otu, JUSAG said it believes Justice Baffoe-Bonnie is the ideal candidate for the position.
"Your decades of judicial industry, perseverance, fidelity to the letter and spirit of the law, wisdom, and exceptional emotional intelligence make you the best fit for the top most judicial job of our dear nation."
Justice Baffoe-Bonnie assumes office at a period JUSAG says the “independence of the Judiciary is on trial” due to years of perceived declining public confidence in the justice system. The association noted that despite the short duration of his tenure, expectations are high as Ghanaians look forward to reforms that will help restore trust in the third arm of government.
JUSAG noted that the success of the new Chief Justice will not be measured by how long he serves, but “by the magnitude of the impact witnessed by people who consume the services of justice delivery.”
“We know you. We have experienced you. And we are very confident in your ability to deliver the desired outcomes that meet the test of our contemporary times,” they added.

It also cited positive developments observed during his acting period, which it believes signal his commitment to staff welfare, professional development, and institutional integrity.
JUSAG pledged its full support for his strategic vision of ensuring that all Ghanaians have equal access to quality justice.
“Lord Chief Justice, congratulations once again! Long live the Judiciary. Long live the Judicial Service. Long live Democracy. Long live Mother Ghana,” the statement concluded.
