Retired Supreme Court Judge, Justice William Atuguba, has expressed strong support for President John Mahama’s reset agenda, describing it as the right course for the country at this time.
According to him, "He [President Mahama] made a statement somewhere that his government will reset Ghana. That is a correct statement to make, that is what Ghana needs," he said while discussing the removal of the Chief Justice in an interview with JoyNews’ Elton Brobbey on The Pulse on Tuesday.
Justice Atuguba explained that long before Mr Mahama launched the initiative, he had himself argued that the country required a fundamental reset, adding that public institutions must be thoroughly audited and reformed to address persistent challenges undermining national progress.
"I said so at my lecture at the Political Science Department, I think in September 2023 that the next government should audit the payslip in the public sector and those who are not qualified to be appointed to a position should be rectified, that is, resetting," he added.
Mr Atuguba believes the ruling National Democratic Congress's reset agenda is a timely and necessary framework to correct systemic failures and restore public confidence in governance.
President Mahama and the NDC have pledged to reset the country. The Reset Agenda has since become a popular slogan, representing the NDC government’s commitment to addressing systemic challenges and correcting past wrongs.
As part of the agenda, the government has established the Operation Retrieve All Loot (ORAL) to recover misappropriated state resources. In addition, a constitutional review of the 1992 Constitution is underway, alongside other institutional restructuring efforts.
