The Denkyira Traditional Council has protested against the association of the Kakum National Park with Cape Coast in various advertisements by Ghana Tourist Board. The chiefs constituting the Traditional Council, subsequently called on the Tourist Board to put an end to the practice. At a Traditional Council sitting, chaired y Nana Ama Ayensuah Saara III on Friday, the Council said it has realized that the park was being portrayed as part of Cape Coast, when it actually falls directly under Denkyira. The chiefs also bemoaned the situation where very little of the revenue generated from the park went to them as custodians of the tropical forest reserve and called for a reversal of the situation. The Traditional Council also expressed concern over the poor nature of roads, education, health, and how to source funds to support this year’s Odwira Festival. They praised the Hospital Administrator of Dunkaw on Offin Government Hospital for his good works, which led to the recording of no maternal mortalities last year, despite numerous deliveries in the area. The Traditional Council used the occasion to also present items such as clothes, blankets and an amount of GH¢500, to displaced flood victims. The Council invited district and municipal chief executives, as well as, members of Parliament (MPs) in the traditional area, to discuss possible ways of promoting the development of the area.
