The Kalvio Basic School in the Kasena-Nankana West District of the Upper East region has received 30 more galvanized dual desks in addition to the 63 it received last November, following a collaboration between a community-based organization known as '1 Cedi 4 Change', Impact Next Gen and Joy FM.
Hitherto, the school which is located in one of the most deprived communities in the Upper East Region, had no furniture and so, the pupils - numbering over 250 - were lying on the bare classroom floors or sitting on stones for lessons.

A campaign dubbed; the Sit a Child Project, was started by '1 Cedi 4 Change', Impact Generation and Joy FM, to get furniture for the Kavio Basic School.
The campaign yielded results and 63 galvanized dual desks were donated to the school in November, last year.
In the second phase of the Sit a Child Project, 30 more galvanized dual desks have been donated to the Kalvio Basic School this month, bringing the total number of desks to 93.

The headmaster of the school, Ignatius Kutumowo received the desks on behalf of the school and promised they will be put to good use and maintained for benefit of all school children in the community.
He said the donation will help “improve the academic performance of the pupils and increase enrollment in the school”.
