The National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Anthony Abayifaa Karbo has questioned the credibility of the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) over the document reportedly criticizing the opposition NPP for abuse of incumbency when in government.
Anthony Karbo opined that there is some level of partiality in the report on the side of the policy think tank IEA.
Ghana New Agency on August 14, 2011 published a report purported to be from the IEA website chiding the NPP for abuse of incumbency in the round up to the 2008 general elections.
According to the supposed report, the NPP’s campaign was very flamboyant than that of the then opposition party, National Democratic Congress which engage in a-door-to door-to campaign.
It also stated that, the NPP used state resources to distribute party paraphernalia of its presidential candidate, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo across the country to the disadvantage of the opposition NDC.
But the IEA in a statement issued on Monday dismissed the report indicating that no such report has been prepared and released by them.
However, on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday, Anthony Karbo stated emphatically that the supposed document indeed emanated from the IEA.
He added that the IEA in 2000 indicted the ruling NDC government for incumbency hence must be seen being categorical in their report on the NPP’s conduct in the 2008 elections.
The NPP National Youth Organiser questioned the rationale behind the IEA taking off the suppose report from its website if indeed the report was genuine.
He urged the Institute of Economic Affairs to come clear with the truth and make the said report available to the NPP.
Anthony Karbo worried about the contradictions on the party of IEA stressed that “I don’t want to believe that the IEA is trying to give one political party a folder to use against the opposition party. If that is the case then IEA itself would be a walking contradiction.”
