The Chief Executive Officer of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Prof Otchere Addai-Mensah, has been relieved of his duties and is expected to hand over to a yet-to-be-named CEO by next week.
The decision, which takes immediate effect, was made following a meeting with the Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandor.
According to JoyNews sources, the Health Minister, in a meeting with Prof Addai-Mensah, conveyed the government's appreciation for his unique commitment and sense of responsibility to ensuring KATH became a modern health facility.
Prof Addai-Mensah, who has served as CEO since 2022, oversaw a number of key initiatives, including infrastructure upgrades such as the Assantehene’s Heal KATH project.
With two years still left on his contract, the outgoing CEO would be leaving office having spearheaded the most famous renovation project, dubbed the 'Heal Komfo Anokye Project' (HeKAP), an initiative to make KATH a modern premier health facility.
From two dialysis machines in 2022, Prof Addai-Mensah, through his industry and influence, would be leaving behind over 20 dialysis machines for the treatment of renal issues, aside from many other massive retooling efforts and the construction of a modern pharmaceutical block.
Meanwhile, the government is expected to announce a new replacement for the health facility in the coming week.
