Since the introduction of the Kelni GVG platform by the Ministry of Communications and the Ghana Revenue Authority, the country has been able to save a potential loss of GH¢1.5 billion and an estimated GH¢470 million in taxes
This revenue according to the Minister Designate for Communication and Digitization, Ursula Owusu Ekuful, was discovered on the platform that was installed for the monitoring of revenue flows for the system.
She also disclosed that the country increased its tax revenue from the telecom sector as a result of the implementation of the system and common platform.
The Minister was answering questions to the appointment committee during her vetting process in parliament.
“Since first quarter of 2017 till date, an estimated GH¢470 million in taxes have been saved as well as a potential loss of GH¢1.5 billion from the monitoring platform and I have been informed that the Ghana Revenue Authority has contracted an auditing firm, Safaritech which confirms the savings” she noted.
She has justified the implementation of the programme, saying, it has helped the country to boost its tax collections from the sector.
