The General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) is challenging the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to officially declare its stance on the infamous comments made by its Member of Parliament for Assin North, Kennedy Agyapong.According to him, it is not enough for the party to issue a statement dissociating itself from the embattled MP’s comments whiles on the other hand the party treats him like a hero.Speaking in an interview with Joy News Television, Johnson Asiedu Nketia said he was surprised the NPP’s counter press conference did not answer the basic question about where the party’s position over the use of intemperate language.“They have not answered the basic question and the question is do they accept the statement of Kennedy Agyapong as legitimate for which he must be commended?” Mr. Asiedu Nketia quizzed.“They have not addressed that issue. If they think that what Kennedy Agyapong said was a mistake, they should own up and stop praising him but they cannot be issuing a statement distancing themselves from the statement and yet by conduct (be) congratulating him for issuing that statement so I want them to come clean on that” he said.Mr. Agyapong who is currently standing trial for comments he made which have been described as treasonable has been charged with treason felony, attempted genocide and terrorism.According to Mr. Asiedu Nketia, instead of the NPP answering the basic question of where they stand on the matter of the use of intemperate language, “they chose to allude to the fact that they handed over peacefully after the last election and therefore that makes them democratic. My response was that they didn’t have any option. NPP had run out of options and so they were forced to accept the results and hand over”.
