Barclays Africa Group Limited has announced that Kennedy Bungane, Chief Executive of Barclays Africa Regional Management and Head of Strategy, will be leaving the Group on 18 June 2014 to pursue other business interests.
Maria Ramos, Group Chief Executive of Barclays Africa, in a statement said: “We would like to extend our thanks to Kennedy for his valuable contribution. Notably, this includes the role that he has played in supporting the creation of the Barclays Africa Group and the development and execution of our African growth strategy. We wish him the very best for his continued success.”
In the interim, the Barclays Africa executive will assume accountability for Kennedy’s portfolio in addition to their current responsibilities.
“In February this year, I outlined a number of targets and priorities for the Barclays Africa Group. These include increasing the share of our non-South Africa business to 25% and becoming a top three bank by revenue in our four biggest markets outside of SA by 2016. We remain on track to deliver on these and are fully committed to resourcing our talent, our operating model and driving the growth strategy across all Barclays Africa Group’s territories,” concludes Ramos.
Kennedy, whose career spans over 23 years in the banking industry, said: “After a fulfilling career I have decided to change industries and gain new experiences. I am privileged to have played a part in the creation of Barclays Africa, which has been the highlight of my banking career. I am most grateful to Maria Ramos and my Africa Executive colleagues for the opportunity to contribute to building the ‘Go-To’ bank in Africa and for the friendships and support as we have worked together to redefine banking on the continent.”
