The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Ketu South, Albert Zigah, is accusing deputy Finance Minister, Fifi Kwetey of using what he calls "crude ways" to unseat him.
The accusation follows news publications that Mr. Kwetey could be eyeing the seat for Election 2012.
Ahead of the contest, the incumbent MP has told Joy News the Deputy Minister is using insults and intimidation to make him unpopular in the constituency.
Mr. Zigah said the Deputy Minister dispatches thugs to follow his younger brother in all the constituency, an action intended to scare him into submission.
“The man claims I cannot even write my name and (that) I am an illiterate. That is what he has been telling all the people,” a worried Mr. Zigah told Joy News.
He however welcomed any competition from Fifi Kwetey urging him to subject himself to the processes if he wants to be an MP, insisting that Mr Kwetey is no threat to his seat.
But in a sharp rebuttal, Fifi Kwetey dismissed the allegations saying the MP “is afraid of his own shadow.”
He said Mr Zigah begins to panic when he sees anyone as a possible contender for the seat, adding "he has done similar things to even the current District Chief Executive.”
Mr. Kwetey went further to describe his MP as a "psychologically insecure personality who is so much afraid and really scared.”
He described the allegations of harassment leveled against him as “the ranting of a man who clearly is very afraid.”
He said Mr. Zigah is aware that he has performed abysmally that is why he is showing signs of fear even though the real contest has not started.
