The Western Regional police command has warned the general public and the media to desist from spreading false kidnapping stories.

The warning follows what they describe as unnecessary creation of tension and increasing the sense of insecurity in the region.

Speaking to Joy News, Western Regional Police PRO, DSP Olivia Ewurabena Adiku said from last week and over the weekend there have been four reported cases of supposed kidnapping, which caused a lot of tension but after investigations turn out to be false.

“We recorded four cases but fortunately, it was not really kidnapping but people who left home without informing their families,” she said.

The first case according to DSP Olivia Adiku was at Kwesimintsim where a 25-year-old lady, Maame Darkowa Anoma, left home on January 14, without informing anyone.

On January 19, her father came to the police at Kwesimintism and reported that she had not been seen for some days and he suspected that she has been kidnapped.

“But fortunately on Saturday he came with her to the station and she said was having a problem with the family so she left to Accra in search of a job without informing her parents. 

“She said, unfortunately, she lost her phone when she got to Accra,” she explained.

DSP Adiku referenced another case where a mother beat up her child because the money she brought after selling water was not right hence the daughter fleed from the house and was found on Sunday.

“On Sunday around 10 pm a good Samaritan saw her loitering around and questioned her but she could not give any tangible answer so later the family came to identify her,” she said. 

The third case according to the Police PRO happened on Sunday morning where one Abigail Asiedu, living at Kojokrom was reportedly kidnapped but it turns out she has gone to visit her boyfriend at Inchaban Nkwanta.

The fourth case she explained was in Tarkwa where a girl was reportedly kidnapped but was later found with her boyfriend.

She also spoke on how a civilian was almost mob at Ahenkofi a suburb of Kojokrom in the Western Region on Sunday when residents suspected him to be one of the kidnappers at Evergreen hotel.

DSP Adiku appealed to the public and the general public engaged in the practice of spreading falsehood to desist from it.
