The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, (KNUST), has entered into partnership with the Project Management Institute (PMI) Ghana for enhanced teaching and learning of project management as a programme of study in the school.
This is aimed at bridging the existing gap between theory and industry as well as making KNUST students globally competitive after school.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) gives effect to the goals signed between the two institutions.
The move is influenced by a recent survey which revealed that about $100 million is lost from every one billion dollar physical projects due to unprofessional and unethical practices or incompetence of executioners of projects.
Speaking to Journalists after the signing ceremony, President of the PMI Ghana, Frank Owusu-Asamoah hinted that the move is critical to ensure some efficiency in projects globally.
“Project Management as a professional programme of study at the tertiary educational level has therefore come in handy to assure both governments and private project owners of value for their investment”.
“Though in Ghana, it is a relatively new area of study, it is fast gaining popularity among prospective and enrolled students at the tertiary level. It is to make the study of Project Management even much popular that the Project Management Institute Ghana is partnering with renowned Ghanaian universities to make available more expertise to enhance both theoretical and practical study of the course” he noted.
The KNUST, is the latest and second to enter into partnership with PMI, Ghana, after a similar Memorandum of Understanding with the GIMPA.
Established about 14 years ago, the PMI is among organizations in Africa with a membership of 1,500.
It is the local chapter of PMI which has a global membership of 700,000 committed to professional and ethical supervision, consultancy and management of projects.
