As humans, sometimes, we tend to be forgetful and leave appliances plugged into the extension board.
This can result in a fire outbreak that could lead to loss of properties.
So, what if you have the ability to control your extension board remotely?
That is what three students from the Computer Engineering Department of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Alexander Osei Bonsu, Francis Akwasi Agyemang and Obed Ansah have done.

“Most of the time, we leave our houses and sometimes we forget we’ve left our devices on the extension board and you can’t come back,” one of them explained the reason behind the innovation.
The extension board is controlled by the internet, so they’ve developed an App for this purpose.
It uses four relay models to control the sockets.
This board has a current sensor to know how much energy they are consuming at a point in time.
It also has a fuse to control surges in current.
