Management of Koala Shopping Mall have explained their employee who was shot by suspected armed robbers not was carrying company cash as earlier reported in the media.
Administrative Manager Belinda Bekoe told Joy FM's Super Morning Show Monday, “administrators do not work with money. She has never carried money on her routine duties”.
Explaining events leading to the armed attack on her assistant, the Administrative Manager explained, her assistant’s job involved moving from branch to branch to collect information from employees and report to the head office for processing.
She usually does this daily routine with a driver of the company. On the fateful Saturday, she had to do the routine alone because the driver detailed to accompany her was unavailable.
Belinda Bekoe explained that her assistant first went to Osu branch and then to Cantonment branch located in a residential area where commercial vehicles are often not easily spotted.
After she found it difficult to halt a taxi, she decided to walk until she reached an area where commercial vehicles would be readily available.
But two robbers on a motorbike apparently trailed her and shot her in the thigh in an attack intending to rob her. It is believed the robbers had help from an employee of Koala who may have believed she was carrying company cash.
“If there would be money it would be money she owes personally,” Belinda Bekoe was emphatic.

A taxi driver who witnessed the attack, single-handedly chased and caused the arrest of the two suspected armed robbers who shot the administrative assistant.
He rammed his commercial vehicle into the armed robbers’ unregistered motorbike, immoblising them long enough for other passers-by to help arrest the suspects.
Koala has promised to replace the taxi. The Police had promised to repair it. The driver has been hailed by the police administration and ex-president Jerry John Rawlings.
"We should all applaud his courage. The man deserves national recognition for his bravery,” the former President said.
