The Managing Editor of the Ghanaian Lens newspaper, Kobby Fiagbe has dared flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo to answer questions on why he makes friends with people who have served jail terms for drug related offences.According to Kobby Fiagbe, although he does not have evidence that Nana Addo himself uses drugs, he has proof that some of his close friends are convicted drug barons and has emphasized his challenge to the presidential candidate’s legal team to sue him if his claims are not true.He was speaking on Dwaso Nsem on Adom FM Wednesday in reaction to threats from the flag bearer’s legal team that they would sue anyone who engages in peddling what they described as baseless allegations of drug peddling against Nana Akufo-Addo.Kobby Fiagbe mentioned names like Yaw Amfo Kwakye and Raymond Amankwah as some of the drug barons in whose company Nana Addo is sometimes found adding the flag bearer used to be a ‘chain smoker’, a practice he described as not befitting for a leader. He said the appointment of Nana Akufo-Addo as Foreign Minister when he is known to associate with drugs barons is an apparent glorification of drug dealing and drug dealers. However in a sharp rebuttal, counsel for Nana Addo, Nana Asante Bediatuo who also spoke on Dwaso Nsem, described Mr. Fiagbe’s allegations as wild and over flogged.Though he acknowledged the names the Lens editor mentioned, he insisted they had completed their prison terms and are at liberty to associate with anyone.Nana Asante Bediatuo described the publication as a ‘calculated attempt’ to soil the image of Nana Akufo-Addo whose listening campaign has become very effective. He said the NDC started such allegations against Nana Addo while it was in opposition and cannot understand why they want to continue despite having the power to investigate the matter and challenged them to put Nana Addo before court if they have the evidence.Nana Asante Bediatuo suggested that the NDC should rather channel its energies into addressing more developmental issues that will support nation building.Story: Akuamoah Boateng/Adom News/Ghana
