Mr Kofi Adams, aide to the Rawlingses, says he is disappointed at the National Security Advisor for saying the media should impress upon ex-president Rawlings to produce the controversial GHS90 million tape.A confidante of the Rawlingses, Herbert Mensah, had claimed to have access to security tapes in which unnamed persons were discussing a GHS90 million budget for President JEA Mills' flagbearership campaign for the governing NDC's July 8 congress. His comments sparked a huge controversy with supporters of the Nana Konadu campaign team feeding on and citing it as an example of abuse of incumbency.Mr Herbert Mensah was invited for questioning after President Mills directed the National Security to investigate the allegation. Hebert then directed the investigators to Mr Rawlings, saying he had the tape in question.Even though General Nunoo-Mensah had earlier maintained it was crucial to get to the bottom of the allegation and to unravel the truth, he seems to have ceded his statutory power of interrogation and investigation to the media as he told the media to call ex-president Rawlings and ask him for the truth since the whole nation is interested in the matter.Mr Kofi Adams, while contributing to discussions on Peace FM’s current affairs programme Kokrokoo on Tuesday, however believes it was better the National Security Advisor didn't make the comments. He insisted that the investigation was triggered by a directive from the president himself and thus, the national security could not cede that responsibility to the media.“Whether they will invite him or not is the responsibility of National Security [or] the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI)…” Kofi Adams said, urging that the investigation be fast-tracked to establish the truth.Story by Dorcas Efe Mensah/myjoyonline.com/Ghana
