Aide to the ex-first family has rubbished a wikileaks report suggesting ex-President Jerry Rawlings was on drugs.
Kofi Adams insists there is no basis for such a remark; accusing a departing Netherlands Ambassador Hein Princen as being illogical.
A recently released cable by the US based whistleblower website, wikileaks, contained excerpts of opinions by the Netherlands Ambassador and his wife who were treated to a week-end rendezvous by ex-President Jerry John Rawlings and his family in 1997 at the ex-first family’s yacht in the Volta Region.
The Ambassador’s wife, who is said to be a social worker concluded the ex-president was on drugs.
But in a reaction to Myjoyonline.com aide to the ex-first family Kofi Adams who confirmed having read snippets of the publication said the report must be binned.
He said the cable must not be considered as true merely because it is coming from wikileaks.
He said he, having followed the track record of ex-President John Rawlings for many years would on any day vouch for his credibility and commitment to Ghana’s development than what a confused and illogical Ambassador will say about the ex-president.
Citing portions of the cable which quoted the departing ambassador as saying they (the ambassador and his wife) met with Rawlings, his wife, Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings and six of their children, Kofi Adams said this assertion can only come from a confused and illogical ambassador.
He said it is public knowledge that the ex-president and his wife have only four children and wondered how anybody will say the children are six.
He also played down on portions of the cable which suggested that Mr. Rawlings had a distant relationship with his wife.
Kofi Adams said Mr. Rawlings had himself confessed on many public platforms that because of tight schedules that come with running the affairs of the country he had spent very limited quality life with his wife and children.
Mr. Adams said he needs no ambassador to remind him about what is already in the public domain.
Asked if the ex-family was considering legal action against wikileaks or the former Netherlands Ambassador, Mr. Adams said that will be a decision to be taken by Mr. Rawlings.
He cautioned the media not to be purveyors of rumours about Mr. Rawlings, saying this is a man who has dedicated all his life to the service and development of Ghana.
