The Koforidua Polytechnic is poised to establish a medical school to advance academic work of the school and augment the need for medical specialists in the country.
Rector the Polytechnic, Professor Reynolds Okine, the institute in collaboration with its partners oversees has already applied for accreditation to begin programmes in medical laboratory science, Biomedical engineering, Food technology among a host of health science programmes to be enrolled soon.
He stated that the school will soon set up the school of Allied health and health sciences by the year 2014.
The Rector disclosed these at the 10th congregation of the school in Koforidua.
He also disclosed that the National Reference Centre for Parasitology, department of medicine, division of infectious diseases of the McGill University in Canada donated medical equipments worth nearly $1 million to enable the polytechnic mount the programmes.
Professor Okine however urged government to speed up the process of turning all polytechnics into technical universities.
He said the academic board of the school has already set up a university planning committee to see to the successful transition.
