The Korea International Cooperation Agency has presented a number of equipment including motor tricycles to three districts in the Volta Region.
The presentation is part of a training programme to improve maternal and child health care in the region.
Under the two-year KOICA sponsored training programme, 12 Physician Assistant – Medical’s, 48 Midwives, 144 Community Health Nurses and 126 CHV’s from the three of the districts in the Volta Region- Ketu North, Ketu South and Keta have been taken through a number of strategies towards improving maternal health care delivery.
The programme which began in August last year would end in July 2016.
There are six phases of the programme within the two -year period with each phase tackling some of the pertinent maternal health care issues in the region.
During the training programme it was manifest the lack of essential tools and materials for health care delivery.
The few which were available were largely not functional and required urgent replacement.
It was to solve some of these difficulties that KOICA and its partners including USAID donated medical and transport equipment to health care providers in the three beneficiary districts of the Volta Region.
Mr Joseph Degley, health official in one of the three beneficiary districts assured the equipment will be put to good use.
“A workman is only as good as his tools and therefore no good workman without good tools can perform,” he said during his acceptance speech.
“These tools shall go a long way to improve the lives and health of our people,” he noted.
