It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Kojo Bentsi-Enchill, the founding partner of the Bentsi-Enchill, Letsa & Ankomah, who passed away on 13 February 2021.
Kojo founded the firm in 1990 with his friend and classmate, D.K.D. Letsa, and was the Managing Partner of the firm until 2010.
He was the Senior Partner and headed the Energy and Natural Resources practice group of the firm for several years and then the merged Energy and Infrastructure department between 2019 to2020.
Kojo retired from the firm in April 2020 but remained a consultant to the firm.
KBE, as we affectionately called him, left an indelible mark not only within the firm but also across the legal profession in Ghana.
His desire to enhance legal practice led him to establish DataCenta Limited, a pioneer in digital publication of legal materials of Ghana.
Data Center Limited continues to provide the invaluable service of disseminating legal databases on the internet.
Kojo was a visionary, a passionate and selfless leader. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Kojo have lost an inspiring mentor.
Kojo’s fearless spirit, rigorous work ethic and unwavering integrity will forever be the foundation of the firm. It is hard to overstate Kojo’s impact on the development of legal practice in Ghana and to the continued success of the firm.
Outside of work, Kojo cared deeply about many matters including researching Ghanaian history, socio-political matters, classical music and legal reform in Ghana.
We will remember him for his wonderful sense of humour, humility, fierce intelligence, legal acumen and his humanity. Kojo was not only a consummate professional but a loving family man.
Although he will be solely missed, his legacy will never be forgotten. Indeed, we are part of his legacy and we are privileged to have had the opportunity to share in his dream of a great Ghanaian law firm.
We extend our heartfelt condolences and sympathy to Kojo’s family. Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.
Details of the funeral arrangements for Kojo will follow in due course, together with how the firm intends to celebrate and honour Kojo’s life and work.
