The Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) has opened its doors for patients to give feedback as the world commemorates Patient Safety Day.

The World Patient Safety Day is an annual celebration to raise global awareness about patient safety and call for solidarity and united action by all countries and international partners to reduce patient harm.

Amongst the patients who shared their experiences at a ceremony to mark the day on Friday, is Myjoyonline.com journalist, Felicia Osei.

Miss Osei who spent a week on admission at the health facility earlier this year, shared her “some nice and others not so nice” experience with participants.

Narrating her worst experience, Miss Osei said a nurse left her unattended for nearly an hour although she was in intense pain.

While acknowledging the gaps in the health system in the country, the journalist made a clarion call for health practitioners to have empathy for their patients.

“Patient safety entails a lot, sometimes the way patients are treated is enough to help them recover quickly. It’s not called health CARE for no reason.

“I always tell my friends and family members that I had to get myself discharged early because of the attitude of some of the nurses. There are a lot of issues with health care delivery in Ghana, and as a patient, I will be glad if health caregivers are not part of those issues,” she said.

The journalist nonetheless commended the referral hospital for going digital.

She also asked government to stop the lip service to health care issues and commit to providing the required amenities so as to enable health caregivers to carry out their duties as is largely expected.
