Kumasi Asante Kotoko will open their CAF/MTN champions league account with a tricky home duel against Gambian side, Port Authority at the Obuasi Len Clay stadium.
The past weeks have not produced the best for the Ghanaian side and that affected the morale of the entire fabric of the porcupine fraternity, making some wonder whether they have a new story to write today.
But thanks to the 2-1 victory secured against Power FC in the local premiership last Wednesday, it has ignited the "Wu Kum apem, apembeba" spirit of the club.
And buoyed by that feat, Kotoko seem charged to continue with that run with a convincing victory over the Gambians to make the second leg tie a mere formality.
Again, an authoritative win will convince their supporters that all is not lost with them but get them back to fill the stands in their numbers to cheer them on.
Playing a side like Port Authority whose exploits on the continent do not match up to some of the greats, one could easily assert that Kotoko are in for a match which outcome can easily be predicted.
But with their experience with clubs with similar status last season fresh in their memories, Kotoko would have to guard against complacency.
Especially when an unfavourable atmosphere awaits them in a week’s time, the Telat Uzum team must not waste the chances like they do in the premiership.
To go far, a lot would depend on the kind of marksmanship abilities the likes of Kwame Obeng Darko, Nana Arhin Duah and Ahmed Simba Toure would display on the afternoon.
Without doubt, the Gambians would present a defensive-minded side that would seek Kotoko’s pressure and get them on the break and that is why Daniel Acquah, Michael Ofosu Appiah and Godfred Yeboah must be alert at the back.
