Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has called on Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng to account for his handling of corruption investigations, questioning the slow pace of prosecutions.
Kpebu’s concerns come in the wake of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) declaring former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta a suspect in four major corruption cases, including the National Cathedral project and Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML) contracts.
At a press briefing on February 12, Agyebeng announced that Ofori-Atta was now a wanted person and must return immediately for questioning.
He warned that legal measures could be taken to compel compliance if necessary.
Speaking on Channel One TV, Kpebu insisted that Agyebeng must justify his approach to case management, particularly the delays in prosecuting high-profile figures.
“Kissi Agyebeng’s management style must be seriously scrutinized. He must come and account for his management style. We cannot continue to just give him support,” Kpebu asserted.
He added that blaming former President Akufo-Addo for obstructing the OSP’s work is no longer an excuse, emphasizing the need for swift action.
“Those days where you will just come and say Akufo-Addo is hindering the work are over. If we’re to do that, a lot of things will go under the carpet. I’m not satisfied with the pace of work,” he stated.
Kpebu’s comments add to growing calls for greater accountability within the Office of the Special Prosecutor, as the public awaits decisive action on corruption cases.
