Musician Kuami Eugene has revealed that the quest to draw attention to his upcoming EP influenced the decision to wear the ‘Rags to Riches’ suit at the 2022 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
Speaking on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, on Monday, Kuami Eugene said that the outfit depicts his journey as a young boy in Fadama slums to the famous artiste he is now.
He told the host, Sammy Forson, that “the ambience for my EP actually inspired it. I needed to draw attention on my EP. I needed to send a message out there that I have been through the rag side and I have now become who I am today. Even though I don't have plenty like that, I appreciate the little I have.”
The singer added that to ensure his message got through, he had a stylist design the suit.
On the red carpet of the VGMAs, one side of his head was braided and the other combed out. His outfit also had two sides to it, one with a luxury suit and the other with a normal suit.
Kuami Eugene said that his next EP is expected to open up on the journey he has been on as an artiste.
“Riches is not all about money, it is about happiness. Wherever you find yourself, your little space being very happy there and you think you're comfortable, I think being rich is being comfortable,” he added.
The musician has released his first single Take Away in anticipation of his Rags to Riches EP.
