Italy based Ghanaian defender, Samuel Osei Kuffour has been voted as the 28th Best Footballer Africa has ever produced.
He was voted to the position in a poll organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) meant to allow football fans to vote for the continents best ever 30 players as part of the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the Confederation.
Information gathered by the GNA Sports from the website of CAF has it that Kuffour who plies his trade with Serie A side, Livorno polled more than 310 votes.
The central defender who was born on September 3, 1976 have had a distinguished playing career in Europe since making his debut with the national Juvenile team, the Black Starlets in 1991, and crowned it with the annexation of the European Champions League trophy in 2001 with German side, Bayern Munich.
Kuffour thus becomes the first Ghanaian born player to emerge in the selection of the Africa’s best 30 footballers.
According to CAF, names of the footballers will be published on its website, every day in the descending order from January 9-Febrauary 8, the date marking the formation of the Association in 1957 in Khartoum, Sudan.
Earlier, Rigobert Song, captain of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon and Nasr El Din Abbas of Sudan (Jaksa) were voted as the 29th and 30th best players respectively.
