Ex-President John Kufuor has expressed surprise over the conduct of the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie on the issue of the party’s boycott of President John Mahama’s inauguration. He wondered why the party’s General Secretary will feign ignorance about the party’s decision to allow he (Kufuor) to attend the inauguration. The party at a National Executive Council meeting agreed that it will boycott the ceremony because of the court case it has filed against the Electoral Commission for declaring the results in favour of President John Mahama. The NEC also agreed that because of the position the ex-president occupied as statesman, he would have to attend the inauguration despite the party’s decision. The NEC decision to allow Kufuor to attend the ceremony was criticized by the rank and file with Mr Kufuor himself not escaping the criticisms. Not even a last gasp demonstration by supporters kept the ex-president from taking part in the demonstration. In an interview with Adom FM the ex-president said his decision, which was taken in consultation with the NEC of the party was in the interest of the state. He did not understand why the party’s General Secretary will claim not to know why he Kufuor was attending the ceremony, especially when he (Owusu Afriyie) was present at the NEC meeting. He challenged the host to find out from Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie why he chose to feign ignorance of a decision he was part of.
